Honey! Put on your red, white and blue! It's the 4th of July!

We celebrated in our own special way involving a hospital bed and an iv-pole. But the Coca-Cola Classic and red white and blue really took this holiday right over the top! I even came bearing gifts for my favorite red–head on his favorite holiday (and the Charmin Ultra stole the show).

....................................................................

Brief Update:

Jas has been back in the hospital for the last two weeks (and three days) due to chronic nausea. Last week he had a day full of nasty procedures (bronchoscopy, colonoscopy and upper endoscopy) which set him back a bit. Dr. Randhawa sent the transplant board at Duke the video and photos of the bronch to help them better understand his special situation in his lungs. They will meet together on Tuesday and decide if they can handle his case after all..... So we're back to waiting again.

It's a good thing we have learned how to do that.

....................................................................

Now back to our romantic Independence Day date:

Because we were feeling extra patriotic we watched Miracle and I stayed awake for the whole thing—which has never happened before because that baby is like three hours long.

Then we raised the hospital bed as high as it could go and caught about a dozen firework shows from the fifth floor window of Long Beach Memorial. I only got myself stuck and nearly fell to my death once. Death might be an exaggeration you say? Alright, it would have been at least a broken arm, a few ribs and some brain damage—dude! those beds can go high. Totally not worth trying to reach for your phone on the chair down below. Sometimes I only have to learn lessons once.

While looking out the window from our tall perch we decided that next year we want to be back in Idaho, at the barbecues and at the Idaho Falls Meleluca show—so close we can feel the explosions beneath us while we lay on a blanket watching the sky light up above us. Everyone is invited.

But for this year we decided to be ok with our picnic of Coke and strawberries and the LB skyline. Those fireworks were pretty magical glittering all over the city lights. Thanks for the show Long Beach horizon.

We missed you two at the barbecue. Toby did a super job with the dutch oven chicken and possibly the best 4th of July weather in recent history!

It's true. We did miss you and the chicken and weather were great. The scones were divine also. Here's to July 4, 2013 in Idaho!

Hello!
I know you do not know me personally but I came upon your blog through a friend and you guys story is amazing! You two really seem like a great couple. I was just reading this recent blog post you wrote and noticed you mentioning your husband had chronic nausea. My brother was sick in the hospital and septic about 8 months ago and was so nauseous that he could not keep any food down. The only thing that allowed him to have some peace from the nausea was eating ginger around the clock. Usually in the form of candy in different flavors like orange, cinnamon or peanut butter. They sell it at a lot of vitamin and health food stores. I am not sure if it will help your husband at all but it may give him some relief if you haven't tried it before. Good luck with everything! :)

I'm glad you had a great view for the fireworks!

I like the 4th in Idaho for 2013 idea. Idaho is the best place to spend the 4th!

I'm so sorry to hear Jason is sick again on top of everything. I can't imagine what a toll this takes on both of you. How is that man of yours always smiling and looking so cute? And you! How do you stay so beautiful and fresh through all of this. You two are such powerful examples to me of enduring to the end.
